Source Materials of the Cultural History of Dhaka City is not a systematic narrative of the cultural history of Dhaka. Rather it is a collection of articles on different aspects of Dhaka city in the nineteenth century revealing the cultural history of the city.
For the last couple of years the author is compiling the socio-cultural history of the former East Bengal or the present Bangladesh (mainly of the nineteenth century). The history of this region has remained mostly untouched in the many accounts written so far. The author’s objective is thus two fold, a. to collect sufficient data and b. to reveal the disjointed parts for a broader perspective. So far, he has already published on nineteenth century Bangladesh society, its newspapers and journals, associations and theatres and festivals. Source Materials of the Cultural History of Dhaka City is an addition to this effort.
